MSC’s Africa Logistics Arm to Invest $43M in Namibia

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company’s Africa Global Logistics (AGL) unit has announced plans to invest up to €40 million ($43 million) in Namibia by 2030. This ambitious investment aims to capitalize on the country’s rapidly expanding oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors.

Expanding Infrastructure in Walvis Bay and Luderitz

AGL is currently constructing a state-of-the-art warehouse in Walvis Bay, a vital port city in Namibia. Additionally, the company is planning significant investments in Luderitz to support oil exploration activities and facilitate the import of wind turbines and other renewable energy equipment. These developments underline AGL’s commitment to fostering growth in Namibia's energy and logistics sectors.

“Our investments in Namibia reflect our strategic focus on leveraging the country’s potential in both traditional energy and renewable resources,” said Koen Rombouts, AGL’s managing director for the southern African corridor.

Establishing an Energy Unit in Namibia

As part of its strategy, AGL is setting up a dedicated energy unit to provide oil and gas services in Namibia. The country has seen recent oil discoveries by industry giants like TotalEnergies and Shell, making it an emerging player in the global energy market. AGL’s new unit is designed to align with Namibia’s growing demand for specialized services in this sector.

Leveraging Strategic Port Infrastructure

Namibia’s strategic port infrastructure in Walvis Bay and Luderitz positions the country as a crucial hub for natural resource exports and renewable energy development in southern Africa. AGL’s investment focuses on enhancing these facilities to support both traditional and green energy sectors, ensuring Namibia’s competitiveness in global markets.

This investment is part of a broader trend in southern African ports becoming essential gateways for exports of natural resources and the import of renewable energy technologies. AGL’s focus on these sectors aligns with its long-term vision of sustainable development and economic growth in Africa.

A Promising Future for Namibia

AGL’s planned €40 million investment underscores the company’s confidence in Namibia’s potential as a key player in the global energy transition. By strengthening infrastructure and introducing specialized energy services, AGL aims to contribute to the country’s economic development while supporting its oil, gas, and renewable energy ambitions.

As Namibia continues to emerge as a leader in both traditional and renewable energy sectors, AGL’s investments mark a significant milestone in fostering innovation, sustainability, and regional economic integration.
