Rennies Consolidated has launched new digital weighbridges at its facility in Walvis Bay, marking a significant investment in operational efficiency and compliance. The weighbridges are located at the former container depot on Hanna Mupetami Road and are designed to improve cargo verification, streamline operations and enhance overall service delivery.
According to Samuel Shoopala, General Manager of Rennies Consolidated, the investment aligns with the company’s long-term strategic vision.
“This initiative is all about enhancing service delivery and accuracy while meeting transport regulations. It marks a strategic advancement in our journey toward improved infrastructure and innovation,” Shoopala said.
The Rennies Depot is strategically positioned close to key transport routes and logistics hubs, allowing for seamless integration into existing supply chain operations. This accessibility also benefits clients and logistics partners making use of the facility.
What sets the new weighbridges apart is their advanced digital technology. Equipped with digital sensors and real-time data capture, the system automates weighing and reporting processes, reducing manual intervention while improving safety, reliability and accuracy.
“The digital system minimises queuing, increases throughput and reduces the need for manual processes,” Shoopala explained. “We have already seen notable improvements, including the ability to manage bulk-to-breakbulk operations with 24 fewer personnel, resulting in significant cost savings.”
Beyond cost efficiency, the weighbridges contribute to improved safety for drivers and staff, help prevent vehicle overloading, and support more accurate billing and operational planning. Clients benefit from faster processing times and improved transparency across cargo movements.
On a regional level, the investment responds to growing logistics demands in Walvis Bay. Improved throughput and reliable data enable smoother cargo flows and stronger coordination between logistics stakeholders.
“This strengthens the supply chain beyond just Rennies and contributes to a more competitive and efficient logistics sector in the region,” Shoopala added.
The project was led by Rennies’ operations team in collaboration with strategic partners. Special recognition was given to Operations Director Patrick Kohlstaedt and Business Support & Improvement Manager Mark Dafel, with additional support from the Manica Group Namibia management team.
With the weighbridges now fully operational, Rennies Consolidated views this development as another milestone in its commitment to delivering smarter and safer logistics solutions.
